Squarespace registered fewer .com domains again, but the month-over-month drop wasn’t as extreme.
I’ve been tracking Squarespace’s new .com domain registrations since it took over Google Domains in early September. Here’s the data :
August (pre-acquisition) 250,324
September (acquisition occurred September 8) 189,713, down 24% month over month
October 160,931, down 15%
November 145,141, down 10%
The good news for Squarespace is that the drop isn’t as big each month.
Squarespace says that churn from Google Domains customers is less than expected, but it hasn’t stated if new registrations are hitting its target.
ICANN just published data from .com registry Verisign showing new registrations at each registrar for November. In addition to the Squarespace data, note that Hostinger has landed on the top 10 new registrations chart for two months in a row, this time topping 100k registrations.
Below is a chart showing how the largest registrars did in terms of new registrations in November. Note that the rankings include multiple registrar accreditations within families of registrars. You can see the list at the end of this post.
