It appears to be part of a small test, although neither company will comment about it.

Register.com and Network Solutions are running a small subset of their expired domain inventory through GoDaddy Auctions.

In recent weeks, I’ve noticed inventory from both registrars in expired domain auctions and closeouts at GoDaddy.

The number of domains is relatively small. I count fewer than 100 domains from each registrar currently working through the next week of expired domains. Examples include digitalski .com, lowcostrugs.com, and guardiannow .com.

It also seems that the majority of inventory is made up of relatively young domains.

These two registrars have historically sent all of their expired domain inventory to NameJet and SnapNames, which are owned by their parent company, Newfold Digital.

Other registrars in the Newfold family already send their expired inventory to GoDaddy Auctions. Most of them began sending inventory to GoDaddy prior to Newfold’s combination with the company that owns NameJet and SnapNames.

Newfold may be running tests on some of its inventory, perhaps in conjunction with tests on NameJet/SnapNames.

Commenting on the expired inventory, a GoDaddy spokesperson noted, “We cannot disclose details about any specific partner, but we do include expiring domains from a range of registrars in our expiry auctions site.”

Newfold Digital declined to comment.
