The idea of fractional ownership of domain names has been around for 20 years but has only recently become a reality with the arrival of D3’s Doma platform. The new blockchain network for tokenizing and trading domain assets launched last November and has grown steadily since then. The thing that has been missing are the kind of top-tier one word .com domain names that would draw attention to the platform and interest from share buyers. That changed July 1, 2026 when veteran domain investors Michael Castello and David Castello (who founded Castello Cities Internet Network in 1998) offered a stake in their category-defining Smoothie.com domain name to fractionalization on Doma.
