.Art removes premium prices on about 1/3 of its premium inventory.
The .art domain name registry moved about one million domains from premium tiers to regular prices today. Most of the domains were previously priced at $70 wholesale.
Registrars typically charge $12-$20 retail for standard .art domain names, although there are first-year discounts. Namecheap, currently the largest registrar of .art domains, charges $2.88 for the first year.
This still leaves about 2.375 million .art domains at premium prices, which is a lot more than most registries.
The registry started with about 3.5 million domains marked as premium. It was so many that GoDaddy initially only bothered with selling standard level .art domains. (It now offers premiums.)
.Art has about 250,000 names in the zone, which are spread relatively evenly across top registrars, including Namecheap, GoDaddy, Tucows, and Squarespace (most from Google Domains).
