In this video I discuss an absolutely essential topic in Domain Investing - understanding how much your domains are really worth. Many new Domainers will oftentimes register hundreds of domains thinking they are all worth thousands or tens of thousands of dollars. In many cases, if the domain was still available to register - it is not worth much for than the reg fee you paid - or could be worth even less!
So how can you determine how much your domains are worth? This is not as hard as you might think. In fact, the process is very similar to that which real estate investors use - find the selling price of domains similar to yours. There are two great tools available online for doing this - the first is DNJournal.com that keeps a Domain Sales list, and the second is NameBio which will let you search for specific keywords in a domain name and see corresponding sales.
By having realistic price expectations you can not only sell more domains, but show a buyer why your domain is worth the price you are expecting. Watch this video and start selling for your domains for what they are really worth!Cast: Domainvestor
There are many different ways to sell your domain names online. A listing service is a great option for domain owners with large portfolios since it is difficult to promote hundreds or thousands of domain names to private buyers or through domaining forums.
In this video I discuss the basics of creating a good listings for your domains so that you are actively promoting your domains for sale. Many new domainers think that by simply putting their domain up for sale at a listing service means they are actively try to sell the domain. Without actively promoting your domain name and showing a buyer the value it offers them you are not promoting your domain and could miss-out on potential buyers.Cast: Domainvestor
In this video I talk about the importance of identifying which domains in your portfolio are good investments and which are simply wasting your money in yearly registration fees. Oftentimes new domain investors will become excited by the industry and register hundreds of domain names, then when a year goes by they renew the name without thinking about it as an investment.
Domain Investing, like stock investing, involves taking the time to properly analyze your portfolio and determine which domains are good investments. Remember, at the end of the day you want to be a Domain Investor, not a Domain Collector!Cast: Domainvestor
.co is the TLD for Colombia and starting June 23rd 2009 the bidding will begin for who will bring this TLD public. This is most-likely the most anticipated ccTLD ever and it will change the Domaining community forever. With the potential of buying domains with strong type-in traffic as many did in the late 90's once again new Domainers can get-in early.
To learn more - watch my video!Cast: Domainvestor
In this episode of Domainvestors.tv I discuss how domain investors can analyze their portfolio to determine which names have the best income potential. Many Domain Investors have large portfolios that have become overwhelming and expensive to maintain.
In this video I show you the tools I use to pick the domains in your portfolio that will make good investments.Cast: Domainvestor
In this video I discuss a topic that is near and dear to my heart - video! Since this blog is Domainvestors.tv and I do put a focus on video content I thought it was time to do a video, about video.
I'm not going to put a lengthy summary of what I discuss in the post because that would spoil the fun. Enjoy this week's video, happy Domain Investing, and Go Lakers!Cast: Domainvestor
In this episode of Domainvestors.tv I discuss the development process I follow for full-scale websites. While I have discussed mini-site development previously on my blog it is important to understand the time and energy that goes-into developing a full-scale website on a domain.
I recently purchased Translate.co.in through Bido.com and will be developing this domain as a translation service and resource for India.
When I embark on a new development project I like to make-sure I have a solid plan of when I plan to finish the site and how much time I expect the development process to take. It is absolutely essential that you set goals and deadlines if you really want to finish a project.
The main components of this development project are:
- Adding the translation interface to the site. For this I will be using the Google Translate API and AJAX.
- Writing the content. I plan to offer roughly ten articles on the site that I will write myself. I use the Google Adwords Keyword tool to determine which keywords related to "translate" are the most popular. This will help me provide content that people are looking for.
- Designing the headers, logos, etc.
- Writing the HTML, CSS, and PHP code for the site.
I will continue to include my readers in this development project and show you the site as it evolves.Cast: Domainvestor
Do you have a large portfolio of domains? Want to turn those domains into valuable investments? The secret to making a passive income with Domain Names isn't a secret at all - it takes time and hard-work.
In this episode I discuss a new Mass Development Service - DomainMassDevelopment.com that makes it easier than ever to develop your portfolio and start making money with your domain names.
Domain Mass Development not only creates SEO-optimized sites but assigns you a personal account manager so that you can work one-on-one with an expert domain developer.
Whether you have 20 or 2,000 domains a service like this could transform your domain portfolio into a passive income machine!Cast: Domainvestor
In this episode of Domainvestors.tv I explain my four-step process for building a mini-site. When working on any development project it is always essential to break-down the process into digestible components. There are four main steps I follow when building a mini-site:
1) Research
2) Design
3) Content
4) Monetization
In the first step - Research - I do two different things. First I use the Google Adwords Keyword Tool to better understand how popular my keywords are as well as related keywords. Next I look on Google and Yahoo and try to identify successful sites that rank well for the keywords I am optimizing around.
In the second step - Design - I look at the design of successful sites and determine what particular design elements are used that make them successful.
In the third step I use the keyword analysis from step one to write targeted content that will help my site rank well not just for the keywords in my domain but also the most popular keywords related to your keywords. This will help increase your search engine rankings much faster than if you just focused on your keywords.
The fourth and final step is monetization. The key here is to use multiple forms of monetization. Many people just focus on Google Adsense. While Adsense is great it's important to use another monetization technique like Amazon or Clickbank products.
That's it - these are the steps I follow to create income-generating online properties. Once you build a site you can sit back and let it build-up traffic and revenue over time. Don't forget to tweak your design over time and add fresh content when you can. In the end you can have tens, hundreds, or even thousands of income generating domains!Cast: Domainvestor
In this episode of Domainvestors.tv I discuss when to drop a domain and the algorithm I use for deciding whether or not to keep a domain.
There are many different points of view on this issue. As someone who is very focused on SEO I use keyword popularity to determine if a domain has future potential.
Using tools like the Google Adwords Keywords tool is a great way to determine exactly how many people are searching for the keywords in your domain each month.
Remember, you can always try to sell your domain close to the expiry period as well if you don't think you're going to keep it. Your garbage could be a goldmine for someone else who has a specific use for the domain.Cast: Domainvestor
