Hacker shows how he can intercept cell phone calls with $1,500 device
A security researcher showed in a live demo today how he can intercept cell phone calls on 80 percent of the world’s phones with just about $1,500 worth of equipment. Chris Paget, who also showed yesterday how he can hack into the radio frequency identification tags (RFID) from a distance, created a fake cell phone tower, or Global System for Mobile communications (GSM) basestation. Reports Of The Mouse’s Death Have Been Greatly Exaggerated
The Magic Trackpad (if I must call it that) has generated some controversy on the TC network. MG thinks it signals the end of the mouse era. I think it's a great tool but is being lauded by a group of people unfamiliar with decent mice (read: Mac users). I happen to love both Apple's trackpads and great mice at the same time, but it seems to me that we're overlooking the real conflict here. And as…Permalink: http://feedproxy.google.com/~r/Techcrunch/~3/4DeFb-ZpPkY/ | Date: 31 Jul 2010 | 2:57 pm EDT
How North Korea could build a cyber army to defeat the U.S.
It wouldn’t be that hard for North Korea to build a cyber army to take on the U.S. in a war fought only in cyberspace. North Korea has an estimated cyber war budget of $56 million, and the cheap way it could attack the U.S. is by herding a bunch of compromised computers to do its bidding. That’s the assessment by Charlie Miller (below, and above, photoshopped into a photo with North Korea’s…Permalink: http://feedproxy.google.com/~r/Venturebeat/~3/cuS-4Xaa3QU/ | Date: 31 Jul 2010 | 2:49 pm EDT
Help Key: Watch Netflix From Outside The U.S.
You Americans have all the good stuff. Stuff like BP pumping oil in the Ocean and guns, lots of guns. And then you have Netflix and we people outside the U.S. are wondering what could it feel like to have a service like that. Now I know. In Europe we also have online movie services. From OpenWebAsia In Kuala Lumpur: South East Asia’s Web Under The Spotlight
Earlier this month, I attended OpenWebAsia – South East Asia in Kuala Lumpur/Malaysia, a two-day tech and web industry event that attracted over 350 international attendees. Apple Is The New Religion
Its tablet computer can’t play most of the videos on the Web … its cell phone has trouble making voice calls … and yet its products are wildly popular, selling millions worldwide and engendering a cultish devotion among followers. Spying On The Web – Somebody Is Watching You
The King of Pop, Michael Jackson had a hit song called “Somebody’s Watching Me”. The King felt that somebody was watching him every minute, every where he went and everything he did. That is how he became the most photographed person in history. The Flickr Bogan-Martin Award For “Media Overreaction”
One thing you can say about the Flickr team - there's some fight in 'em. They apparently were not super pleased with our coverage of their annual (and unofficial) Grant-Pattishall Award given each year to the Yahoo engineer who “who breaks Flickr in the most spectacular way.” I'm not sure why, I think the award is fun. Workers easily tricked into revealing corporate secrets
Social engineering is the (morally vague) art of tricking someone out of their company’s technical secrets just by talking to them. Blind Item: Which Editor of Valleywag Needs to Resign? Right Now.
Criticising Valleywag in 2010 is something of a pointless exercise, like offering diplomatic counsel to the Ottoman Empire ten years after the Treaty of Lausanne. The Thinning Line Between SEO and Social Media
I’ve been doing SEO for as long as I can remember. I rarely stop to look at the distance I’ve made since I started; more notably, the change in the SEO space and the change in my own philosophies.
